La collaboration entre Miles Davis et le saxophoniste ténor John Coltrane entre 1955 et 1961 a donné naissance à certains des enregistrements les plus merveilleux de l'histoire du jazz. Ce coffret compile tous les enregistrements du quintette réalisés lors de deux sessions marathoniennes en studio (avec également Red Garland au piano, Paul Chambers à la basse et Philly Joe Jones à la batterie) les 11 mai et 26 octobre 1956. Ces dates exceptionnelles ont donné naissance aux albums classiques Cookin' (Prestige PRLP 7094), Workin' (Prestige PRLP 7166), Relaxin' (Prestige PRLP 7129) et Steamin' (Prestige PRLP 7200), qui ont mis fin au contrat du trompettiste avec Prestige Records.

En bonus, ce coffret comprend également l'intégralité du précédent album LP Miles (Prestige PRLP 7014) du Miles Davis Quintet.


Miles Davis’ association with tenor saxophonist John Coltrane between 1955 and 1961 produced some of the most wonderful recordings in jazz history. This set compiles all of the quintet recordings made during two marathon studio sessions (also featuring Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums) on May 11 and October 26, 1956. Those amazing dates produced the music released on the classic albums Cookin’ (Prestige PRLP 7094), Workin’ (Prestige PRLP 7166), Relaxin’ (Prestige PRLP 7129), and Steamin’ (Prestige PRLP 7200), which ended the trumpeter’s contract with Prestige Records.

As a bonus, this set also includes the complete contents of Miles Davis Quintet’s previous Prestige LP Miles (Prestige PRLP 7014).
